New Developments in IVF: Genetic Testing of Embryos and Uterine Receptivity

Ryan M. Riggs, MD

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a highly successful treatment that introduces the female egg and male sperm together in a specialized culture medium to dramatically enhanced the chances of successful pregnancy; importantly IVF allows for genetic testing (PGS and PGD) of the embryo(s) and even more significantly higher pregnancy rates.

In this webinar Dr. Ryan Riggs, owner of Blue Sky Fertility,  will focus on in-vitro fertilization with emphasis on the genetic testing of embryos and uterine receptivity.  He will also discuss the potential benefit of uterine testing on patients with recurrent pregnancy loss.

Ryan M. Riggs MD trained at the distinguished Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School (Norfolk, VA) where the first IVF baby in the United States was conceived. His experience and training with these IVF pioneers, including Dr. Howard Jones, makes him uniquely prepared to successfully treat a wide spectrum of infertility needs. Dr. Riggs attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma College Of Medicine. He subsequently completed his four-year obstetrics and gynecology residency training at the University of South Florida and for one year served as a faculty physician in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. PCOS: A Modern, Holistic Approach

Janet Lee, DACM, L.Ac.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) accounts for approximately one-third of all cases of infertility. Most ovulatory disorders are due to this condition. But it’s not a fertility problem; it’s a metabolic problem that goes beyond your ovaries. PCOS increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes and there’s a genetic link as well. (And here’s a secret: It’s not all about the number on the scale.) In this webinar, Dr. Janet Lee will explain how acupuncture and herbal medicine can help regulate cycles in women with PCOS, improve ovulation and hormonal balance, reduce inflammation and control the risks of hyperstimulation during IVF. She’ll also address new research and different lifestyle shifts that can reduce the impact PCOS has on the body and fertility.

Janet Lee, DACM, L.Ac., is a doctor of Chinese medicine who specializes in women’s health and fertility. She is a Fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine, the only practitioner in Kansas City to have this credential, which involves specialized training, passing a board exam and continuing education in the field. Dr. Lee is co-author of The Supplement Handbook (Rodale Books)—an extensively researched resource guide for physicians and consumers—with Mark Moyad, MD, and has written hundreds of articles on health and nutrition for national magazines. Dr. Lee, who also teaches yoga, owns Vitality Holistic Medicine in the Waldo area of Kansas City and is president of the Acupuncture Association of Missouri.

At Vitality Holistic Medicine, Dr. Lee works with patients at every stage of the reproductive cycle, helping them find balance and a better understanding of their body while setting the stage for fertility in a supportive environment. She uses acupuncture, herbal medicine, yoga, meditation, nutrition and other modalities to help treat a variety of conditions, including PCOS, dysmenorrhea, irregular cycles, excess bleeding, stress and anxiety, pain, “unexplained” infertility, recurrent miscarriage, male factor issues and more. She frequently works with patients who are in the middle of IUI/IVF to help improve blood flow and the response to fertility medications while also reducing stress and anxiety. Once patients conceive, Dr. Lee provides gentle support throughout pregnancy and helps prepare patients for labor and delivery.
